As part of our Undergraduate Research Interview Mini-Series, we are showcasing Honours Research happening at UVic. Mackenzie Mey is an Honours student in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology at UVic. Her research focuses on determining the functional and structural properties of the enzyme, ɑ-Galactosidase, which is a putative virulence factor of the human pathogen, Streptococcus pneumoniae. Her future plans are to pursue a career in healthcare or research.

Brandy Biggar is an Honours student in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences and the Department of Biology at UVic. Her research focuses on marine invertebrates, specifically examining the foregut development in the chiton, Katharina tunicata. She is also interested ecology, climate change, and conservation. Her future aspiration is to pursue graduate studies.
