Monthly Meet-Up @ Canoe Brewpub

For our May meet-up, we'll see you at Canoe Brewpub for an opportunity talk ‘shop’, and meet like-minded scientists from different fields. And enjoy some cold beers, of course.

At this monthly meet up, we want to bring a conversation starter to the floor - this month is focused on LEADERSHIP and how to be an effective communicator in these roles. Developing your own leadership style and acting on it with confidence can be a challenging task in academia, the workplace, and beyond. How do you effectively engage others as a leader? Are there unique challenges that women in STEM face when they are in leadership positions, and how do we address these issues if we come face to face with them ourselves?

Women in Science is a budding initiative to connect women pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The goal is to achieve a supportive and engaging environment that fosters collaboration and success of women pursuing STEM fields. To this end, we issue you all a challenge: at this event, talk to someone new and tell them why you kick-butt in your chosen field. Tell them what makes you a fantastic asset and why your contributions are irreplaceable. And, of course, provide a supportive and congratulatory ear for the rad women scientists around you.

We welcome everyone interested in supporting the Women in Science initiative, regardless of race, gender expression, and sexuality.

We hope to see you there for a fun evening!
