Thank you all for the incredible turn out and support at our launch event on March 9th at 2% Jazz Midtown! The night was a huge success and it would not have been possible without the engaged community and students in Victoria. We had over 100 attendees that were a mixture of men and women at all stages of their careers and education, and featured awesome guest speakers Julie Angus and Jill Robinson.
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new student organization: University of Victoria Women in Science (UVIC WiS). Our initiative is to foster a supporting and engaging environment that promotes collaboration and success of women pursuing education and careers in science, engineering, technology, and math (STEM) fields. We hope to establish a network of multidisciplinary female scientists from all levels of education.
Toward this goal, we will be hosting our launch event on Thursday March 9th, 2017 from 7:30 – 10:00 PM at the 2% Jazz Hillside location (740 Hillside Avenue, Victoria, BC, V8T 1Z4). During this event we aim to form a consensus from scientists and students to determine what programs and resources would be most beneficial to this community. We will establish a clear agenda for the organization to provide networking opportunities, implement mentorship programs, create awards to recognize outstanding female scientists at the University of Victoria, and provide educational workshops.
We hope to see you there!
